Open Question: How can I build a bed myself?

My Pioneer 112D CD/DVD rom drive just recently stopped working when I turned my PC on the other day. Its a custom made PC I built running Vista Home Prem. The drive was working perfectly before. Now I go to device manager and there is a yellow exclamation point next to the CD rom drive. click on it and it says This device cannot start. Code 10. I tried troubleshooting, Windows checked online for a soultion, It found nothing. Then I tried updating the drivers but Windows found no problems or updates with the current driver (it says it is up to date). Then I disabled the device and reenabled and finnaly uninstalled the driver completly, then shut the PC down, opened it up and disconnected the IDE cable from the CD drive and left it for awhile, came back reconnected and rebooted, even went into BIOS to check if the motherboard was detecting it, and everything was normal- it found the drive just fine. But Vista simply fails with it. Its there but its not there. Any ideas? What is a code 10 When I bought the drive, it had the "Works with Windows Vista" sticker on the box, and the vista logo. So no compatibilty issues.

Open Question: How can I build a bed myself?

Good mattresses in stores are too expensive for me and I also want to have a very firm bed. I was thinking of picking up some wood at a home depot and building it myself. But what kind of wood would be best to use? And what material could I use on top of the wood to make my bed a little softer? Is a foam the only option?
I basically do not want to buy an expensive mattress.
